Rock purists were shocked last month when Paul McCartney released a new song with rapper Kanye West.  The reaction on Twitter was even more ridiculous, when thousands of West's fan had no idea who the legendary Beatle even was.  Now comes word that Sir Paul will be performing live at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night with Kanye and the pop star Rihanna.

Say what you will about McCartney, but you have to admit he's got some brass.  Is his recent collaboration a desperate attempt to remain relevant?  Maybe, but McCartney has nothing to prove.  His legend is already in tact.  He could record a duet with Justin Bieber and it still wouldn't diminish his status as one of the greatest musicians of all time.

Whether you love or hate McCartney's new music, you have to admire his willingness to take chances.  When you've done everything there is to do, exploring new genres is the only way for an artist to remain creative.  And really, is working with Rihanna any worse than, say, recording an album with Yoko Ono?  I don't think so.
