It's also been called "The Great Pumpkin Asteroid," but isn't "Death Comet" a much more charming name? The comet, officially called 2015 TB145, passed nearby to earth around the same time back in 2015, but it's fortuitous appearance as well as the timing makes it a special event!

Don't worry, the comet won't come nearly close enough to have any effect on our daily lives, but scientists are fascinated by the bearer of Halloween good-tidings in the shape of a skull.

The asteroid will fly past Earth at a safe distance slightly farther than the moon's orbit on Oct. 31 at 10:01 a.m. PDT (1:01 p.m. EDT).

The asteroid came within 310,000 miles of the planet three years ago. This year, the closest the comet will come to Earth is 24 million miles on Nov. 11.
