Cheyenne Fire and Rescue is investigating a blaze that forced five people from their home early Monday morning.

Prevention Division Lieutenant Steve Zimmerman says firefighters were called to a two-story home in the 3000 block of Cribbon Avenue shortly after 3 a.m.

"They were able to get a pretty quick knock-down on this fire," said Zimmerman.

"Luckily prior to their arrival, the upstairs occupants were still awake and heard the alarm," added Zimmerman.  "They came down the stairs to some smoke and were able to wake the occupants downstairs up and everyone was able to get out of the structure."

Zimmerman says there were several cats in the home, but they were able to get out safely.

The fire caused an estimated $175,000 worth of damage to the home.
