It's been a good long while since we've heard from revered 'SNL' alum Maya Rudolph, following the dissolution of the much-maligned 'Up All Night,' but it seems the sought-after 'Bridesmaids' star may end up back on the NBC stage after all. Sources report that Rudolph has committed to a new NBC variety special, which could well become its own series if successful.

Via Deadline, Lorne Michaels will producer the as-yet-untitled primetime variety special, with an eye to air the pilot as a special following the Winter Olympics, during which the network undergoes another transition with Jimmy Fallon's 'Tonight Show' takeover. Somewhat surprisingly, the project stems from Rudolph and Michaels' original development of an 'Up All Night' variety re-imagining, following the repeated cast breakdowns and attempts at retooling.

In addition to hosting the variety special, Rudolph will executive produce with Michaels, Erin David and Dave Becky. Rudolph had reportedly fielded multiple pilot offers during the 'Up All Night' breakdown, but made it clear to networks her interest in developing a potential variety series.

Well, what say you? Would NBC and Maya Rudolph do well to get into the variety game, or is the format out of date? Tell us where you'd like to see the 'SNL' alum pop up next!
