The Squirrel Creek Fire south of Centennial has grown to 9,085 acres as of 8 pm July 3, according to the incident command. Containment stands at 12%, with crews successfully completing fireline around some of the fire perimeter.

Three outbuildings and a residence have been destroyed by the fire. The Albany County Sheriff’s Office has closed Wyo. 230 from mm 22 to Fox Park, Fox Creek Rd. from Wyo. 11 to Wyo. 230 and Fox Park Road, which evacuation notices remain in effect for the area, though some notices have been lifted east of Sheep Mountain.

Hotshot crews worked throughout the night with more favorable conditions to create firelines and made “significant progress,” according to the incident command. The eastern flank of the fire along Sheep Mountain has been contained, though fire growth along the southwest portion of the fire.

Resources on the Squirrel Creek fire this morning included a COBRA (which provides infra-red mapping of the fire), Canadian air tankers, two MAFFS C-130s (which had been grounded Monday), and several helecopters, along with inter-agency assistance from the Forest Service, Albany County Emergency Management and Red Cross.
