Steenbergen: Chamber Wants Broader Proposal

Doug Randall/ Townsquare Media

Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dale Steenbergen says his organization would like to see the Cheyenne City Council take a look at a broader proposal to amend the city’s Unified Development Code than the one that was voted down Monday night.

The council on Monday voted 6-3 against an amendment to the UDC that would have allowed property owners to plant 50 percent fewer trees on property that is being re-developed. It also would have cut the ground cover requirements by about a third. Steenbergen says his organization didn’t take a stand on the proposal because more wide-ranging changes are needed. Steenbergen says there are cost issues  in regard to development but they go far beyond how many trees are required on a property.

Steenbergen says he wants to continue to work with city officials on ways to improve the appearance of the city without imposing unnecessary costs on business owners.
