Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dale Steenbergen says the widespread perception that the oil industry hasn't contributed much to the Laramie County economy isn't true.

Steenbergen says the fact is that that oil industry has created 750 jobs locally, and many of the companies are continuing to hire new employees. He says oilfield services companies have located here and are likely to make a continuing contribution to the Laramie County economy.

But Steenbergen says businesses in general are still a little nervous about the general state of the economy, how much the Affordable Care Act will cost them and general regulatory issues related to business. He says those factors have tended to limit new hiring across the board, not just in the oil industry.
