Laramie County School District #1 Superintendent Mark Stock says he sees several potential problems with a bill in the state legislature that would allow adults to carry guns in Wyoming schools.

Since individual school boards would have the final say under the bill, it could create a confusing patchwork of regulations around the state. In addition, it could create problems for people visiting other districts. Stock says Laramie County School District #1 already has eight trained school resource officers in place, and has taken a number of other steps to improve security in recent years.

Another concern is getting insurance coverage for state schools if the law passes. At least one major insurance carrier has already said they would stop insuring schools in Wyoming if the proposal ever becomes law.

Supporters of the bill say it would actually improve security by giving adults the ability to defend themselves and students against armed attackers.
