Laramie County School District#1 Superintendent Mark Stock says a new statewide task force studying school safety will focus on three different areas.

Stock, who is a member of the task force, says the first area will be building safety itself, including such things as cameras, door buzzers and general monitoring of who is coming and going from school buildings. He notes local schools added a number of these safety devices in various buildings over the Christmas vacation.

He says a second topic will be police officers, or School Resource Officers as they are usually known, in schools. Stock says there are currently 8 security officers in Laramie County District#1 schools. He says that while he doesn't think there is a need to expand that number  greatly, he still wouldn't mind adding 2 or 3 more in district 1. Stock also notes that many districts across the state aren't currently able to have security officers in schools.

Stock says the third area the task force will look at is security training for teachers and other school employees. Stock says LCSD#1 is in good shape in that area has a risk management team that has been studying security issues for quite some time. But he says there are many districts in Wyoming that don't have such a program, and he says that is an issue that needs to be looked at on a statewide basis.
