A single car accident early Sunday morning on Interstate 80 east of Cheyenne killed a 17-year-old Carpenter girl, according to a spokesman for the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Sgt. David Wagener says Kiersten D. Larson was driving east on I-80 about 19 miles east of Cheyenne around 6 a.m. when her SUV went off the north side of the interstate.

Larson overcorrected, causing the vehicle to slide out of control across both lanes of eastbound Interstate 80.

Wagener says the vehicle then went off of the south side of the interstate and into a ditch where it rolled and threw her out of the vehicle.

Wagener says she died in the crash, and investigators believe the lack of seat belt usage was a factor.
