Sylvia Hackl Tapped As Next Cheyenne City Attorney [VIDEO]

Cheyenne Mayor-elect Marian Orr on Friday announced her choice of Cheyenne attorney Sylvia Hackl to serve as the next Cheyenne City Attorney.

Hackl, 61, is a well-known Cheyenne attorney who has served as Wyoming's Public Defender and Assistant Attorney General. She will replace Dan White who left the post last summer.

Since that time local attorneys Amanda Esch and Mark Stewart of the Davis and Cannon Law Firm have been acting as interim city attorneys. Orr said she didn't expect to be able to appoint someone of Hackl's background for the job.

She praised Hackl as someone with "a great reputation in the community" and ''vast knowledge and experience." Orr said Hackl's appointment "is a win for the community."

Orr on Friday also announced the re-appointment of several city officials, ranging from Jim Martin as Fire chief to Carol Intlekofer as City Clerk and Vicki Nemecek as Director of Public Works, among several others.

But Orr said long-time city Parks and Recreation Director Rick Parish would not be re-appointed, saying later she "wants to go in a different direction." She thanked Parish for his service, but said she wants "a team member who will work well with all of the departments" using a more "holistic approach."

Jason Sanchez was appointed as interim director of the department until a permanent replacement for Parish is named.

Orr said she doesn't have a set timetable in mind to fill the position permanently, adding she is more concerned with finding the right person than filling the position quickly.
