Boosted by two interception returns for touchdowns by the defense, the Wyoming Cowboys won their second straight game with a 35-7 victory over the Northern Colorado Bears Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.
According to a release from the University of Wyoming, wide receiver Jalen Claiborne has been suspended for the upcoming game against Northern Colorado. The official statement reads:
For the second time in two weeks the Wyoming Cowboys have had a defensive player named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week. It was announced by the league office Monday that Sophomore Defensive End Eddie Yarbrough has earned the distinction.
Junior quarterback Brett Smith notched a record-breaking day while leading the University of Wyoming football team to a 42-10 victory over Idaho on Saturday afternoon in front of 22,030 fans at War Memorial Stadium. Smith guided the Cowboys (1-1) to 42 unanswered points in the second and third quarters, while the UW defense held the Vandals (0-2) off the scoreboard until midway through the fourth quarter.
The 2013 University of Wyoming Football season is right around the corner, and the UW Athletics Department is offering a number of different ticket options to fit the needs of individual fans and their families. Fans may begin ordering single-game tickets and three-game mini-packs Friday, July 26, beginning at 5 p.m., Mountain Time, through the official University of Wyoming Athletics Website at www.gowyo.com/tickets.
The Wyoming Cowboys have been tabbed to finish fourth in the Mountain Division during the upcoming 2013 season. The Mountain West Conference is holding its annual Media Days in Las Vegas through tomorrow. In addition to the preseason football poll, the MWC also unveiled its preseason all-conference team.
The new playing surface on Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium was recently completed. It features more of the traditional school colors of brown and "gameday" gold, as well as a new image of Wyoming's Teton Mountains in the end zones.
