MTV Launched 30 Years Ago Today; Where Were You? [VIDEO]

MTV Launch 1981 (YouTube)

Do you remember watching the debut of MTV on August 1, 1981?

It was revolutionary at the time, a TV channel playing nothing but music. From the comments on the You Tube page, a lot of people, including myself, would love the channel to get back to playing all music videos rather than all the reality shows.

Ultimate Classic Rock has posted footage from their first day of broadcasting, complete with vintage commercials.

Can you name the original five veejays on MTV? How about the first TWO videos Music Television played?

Would You Ride Motley Crue’s Roller Coaster Drum Set at Cheyenne Frontier Days?

Are you brave enough to take a ride on Tommy Lee's new roller coaster drum kit?

Motley Crue, the heavy metal band out of Los Angeles, hits Cheyenne Frontier Days tonight on their 30th Anniversary Tour. Lee has been inviting audience members to join him in a spin around his 360 degree drum set coaster. Their opening act, Sick Puppies, is a trio from Australia.

Lee and bassist Nikki Sixx founded the band in 1981 and were later joined by guitarist Mick Mars and singer Vince Neil. Their fifth release, Dr Feelgood, became the number 1 album in 1989 and stayed on the charts for 109 weeks. The band is currently writing new material for their next album.

Kid Rock Exposed on Opening Night of Cheyenne Frontier Days

Kid Rock (Rick Diamond/Getty) How much do you know about Bob Richie out of Romeo, Michigan?

The audience in the packed arena at Frontier Park Friday night got a peek at Kid Rock's entire life. A video called "The History of Rock," Kid Rock, that is, opened his show. It showed his musical influences since he was born in 1971.

Throughout the setlist, the band played pieces of songs from some of his role models, like Ted Nugent, ZZ Top, the Georgia Satellites, the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd and even Stephen Stills. Sheryl Crow joined Kid Rock to sing "Love the One You're With."

Stage Collapses at Cheap Trick Concert in Canada [VIDEO]

Stage Collapses at Ottawa Bluesfest (YouTube)

Did you catch Cheap Trick at the Greeley Stampede with Blue Oyster Cult on July 2? At least that show wasn't shortened by the wind.

At the Ottawa Bluesfest in Canada, the stage collapsed during Cheap Trick's show Sunday night, July 17, due to a sudden storm. The Toronto Sun reported Monday morning that two people were taken to the hospital, one with a "traumatic injury to the abdomen, pelvis and upper leg."

Cheap Trick's official website says that nobody in the band was injured during the collapse, but a truck driver on the crew, only identified as "Sandy," spent the night at the hospital. Dave Frey, the band's manager, tells Rolling Stone that the Rockford, Illinois band's equipment is a total loss, "everything is gone." He adds, "The gear is crushed and it's soaked."

Grass Roots Lead Singer Rob Grill Dies at 67 [VIDEO]

Do you have any Grass Roots records? When I was growing up my sisters had 45's of the Grass Roots Sooner or Later and Temptation Eyes that my brother and I would play.

Over the years the psychadelic sounds of the sixties have been kept alive by the Grass Roots. Last week their bass-playing lead singer, Rob Grill, passed away at a hospice facility in Lake County, Florida at the age of 67.

Rob's wife Nancy says the singer suffered serious head injuries when he fell recently and was in a coma.

We'll play music from the Grass Roots in Rob's honor tomorrow on Your Sunday Brunch.

Paul McCartney Raps On Buddy Holly Tribute ‘Rave On’

Can you sing any Buddy Holly songs? On a new release called Rave On, a wide variety of artists perform tunes by the rock pioneer.

Sir Paul McCartney pays tribute to one of the Beatles' biggest influences on the cover album out today. He even does some spontaneous "rapping" in parts of the song with his voice altered to where it doesn't even sound like the fab four's bass player, but more like a soulful southern preacher. McCartney's version of "It's So Easy" is easily the stand out track on the record.

Lou Reed's performance of "Peggy Sue" would be a close second, transforming Holly's sweet original into a distorted, mournful song about lost love.
