Pink Floyd ‘Animals’ Album Cover Recreated Over London

Do you have Pink Floyd's "Animals" album?

It was like deja vu yesterday in London when a giant inflatable pig, 30 x 15 feet, flew over the Battersea Power Station.

Organizers had hoped to use the original vinyl pig that's been in storage for 35 years, but it had leaks so they created a new one.

The Storm Thorgerson and Hipgnosis album cover was recreated to mark the release of remastered versions of Pink Floyd's 14 studio albums.

Wade Mainer, Bluegrass Banjo Pioneer, Dies at 104

Can you name a rock song with some banjo playing in it?

Chances are, that banjo player was somehow influenced by Wade Mainer. The bluegrass banjo pioneer died of congestive heart failure on September 12th at the age of 104.

Mainer is sometimes called the "Grandfather of Bluegrass" because he helped bridge the gap between old-time mountain music and bluegrass.

Growing up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Mainer is also known for inventing a two-finger banjo picking style.

Spencer Davis Group Drummer Pete York Turns 69 [VIDEO]

\'Gimme Some Lovin\' Spencer Davis Group (YouTube)

The Spencer Davis Group introduced singer and keyboardist Steve Winwood to the world along with his brother Muff Winwood on bass. The group began when Spencer Davis was a lecturer on German at the University of Birmingham, in England, moonlighting as a musician. In 1963 he met drummer Pete York and they persuaded the Winwood brothers to leave their traditional jazz band and join them in the Spencer Davis Group.

Their biggest hit was "Gimme Some Lovin'," written by Davis and both Winwoods. "I'm a Man" also hit the top ten in 1967. Steve Winwood left to form Traffic and his brother, Muff, went on to produce acts like Dire Straits and Squeeze.

York and Winwood were members of a British super group formed in 1967 called Eric Clapton and The Powerhouse. Eddie Hardin, who replaced Steve Winwood in the Spencer Davis Group, got together with Pete York in 1969 and formed Hardin and York.

MTV Launch 1981 (YouTube)

Do you remember watching the debut of MTV on August 1, 1981?

It was revolutionary at the time, a TV channel playing nothing but music. From the comments on the You Tube page, a lot of people, including myself, would love the channel to get back to playing all music videos rather than all the reality shows.

Ultimate Classic Rock has posted footage from their first day of broadcasting, complete with vintage commercials.

Can you name the original five veejays on MTV? How about the first TWO videos Music Television played?

Stage Collapses at Cheap Trick Concert in Canada [VIDEO]

Stage Collapses at Ottawa Bluesfest (YouTube)

Did you catch Cheap Trick at the Greeley Stampede with Blue Oyster Cult on July 2? At least that show wasn't shortened by the wind.

At the Ottawa Bluesfest in Canada, the stage collapsed during Cheap Trick's show Sunday night, July 17, due to a sudden storm. The Toronto Sun reported Monday morning that two people were taken to the hospital, one with a "traumatic injury to the abdomen, pelvis and upper leg."

Cheap Trick's official website says that nobody in the band was injured during the collapse, but a truck driver on the crew, only identified as "Sandy," spent the night at the hospital. Dave Frey, the band's manager, tells Rolling Stone that the Rockford, Illinois band's equipment is a total loss, "everything is gone." He adds, "The gear is crushed and it's soaked."
