Technical Sergeant Matthew Schwartz was an explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) technician stationed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming. On January 5, 2012, he was a team leader in known hostile southern Afghanistan territory and  a device targeting Sergeant Schwartz’s vehicle detonated. The subsequent explosion left Sergeant Schwartz mortally wounded.

Matthew Schwartz is survived by his wife Jennifer; daughters Aliza, Emily and Morgan.
