We’ve had some sad losses over the weekend, one of them being rock icon Lou Reed who passed away on Sunday, only 6 months after he had a liver transplant.  We also lost a television icon this past Friday, actress Marcia Wallace.

Some of you knew her as Bart Simpson’s chain smoking teacher Edna Krabappel on “The Simpsons,” while others remember her as that loveable sassy secretary in the 70’s television hit show “The Bob Newhart Show.”  But what some of you didn’t know, is that Marcia Wallace was a crusader in finding a cure for breast cancer, a disease she was diagnosed with in 1985.  Marcia ironically died during a month dedicated to breast cancer awareness.

Executive producer for The Simpsons, Al Jean, said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly “I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace.  She was beloved by all the Simpsons, and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character…”

Marcia Wallace passed away just 1 week away from her 71st birthday.  She’ll be sadly missed.

What celebrity’s passing effected you the most this past year?
