The Best NFL Players From Wyoming And Colorado State
This weekend, Wyoming and Colorado State will renew their Border War rivalry for the 109th time. Over the years, the two programs have collectively produced 184 NFL Draft picks, 15 Super Bowl Champions, 12 Pro-Bowlers and 1 member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
CSU currently has eight players in the NFL; Wyoming has seven.
Eight CSU players have won the Super Bowl or an NFL Championship. Wyoming has produced 7 Super Bowl champs.
Eight former Rams have been selected to the Pro Bowl. Four former Pokes have made it.
Colorado A+M alum Jack Christiansen is the only player from either school in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Former Ram and Pittsburgh Steeler Joey Porter will likely join him in the hall soon. Wyoming tight end Jay Novacek may end up in Canton someday too.
Colorado State has had 102 players chosen in the NFL Draft, five of them in the first round. Wyoming has produced 82 NFL draft picks with three, first-rounders.
Gary Glick was CSU's highest draft pick. The defensive back was the first overall selection in 1956. Defensive end Mike Bell was the second overall pick in 1979.
Wyoming's highest draft pick was Ron Billingsley, who was the 14th player taken in 1967.
We'll probably be watching several future NFL Draft picks on the field this weekend. Cowboys quarterback Josh Allen will likely be one of the top players selected in the 2018 Draft. Hopefully, for Pokes fans, Allen's professional will last longer than former CSU quarterback Kelly Stouffer, who was the sixth overall pick in 1987.
