Want to put a 50-pound turkey on the table for Thanksgiving? You won’t find one at the grocery store, but you can find some really big birds on a farm near Powell, Wyoming.
In 2005, Powell farmer Joel McCoy raised a 57-pound turkey. Although the Wyoming Department of Agriculture doesn’t maintain poultry records, it was the largest turkey ever documented in the Cowboy State.
The state record for wild turkeys is 31.31 pounds, set by Curtis Lynch in Crook County. According to the National Wild Turkey Federation, Crook County has the fifth highest number of registered birds in the country.
