Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Falling on the last day of Monday of May, it is meant to honor men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.

Personally, I will thank and pray for them as I do on a regular basis, and I include the wounded as well, but that’s my choice.

Some gave all so that we could live free in the greatest country in the world. I thank them all.

Having said that, let us also celebrate the freedoms they earned us.

The standard way for most Americans, is with a BBQ on Monday, weather permitting. You can get the latest forecast below.

The average person will spend $225 on food, booze, and Memorial Day sales this weekend.  About $70 on food . . . $55 on alcohol . . . and $100 shopping.  The most popular things we're looking for are clothes, shoes, and something for the house.

Honor those who gave us our freedom and enjoy the weekend with family and friends. If you're traveling, this article may help figure costs.
