With two players still battling illness, the Wyoming Cowboys started preparation for San Diego State Monday.

Wyoming head men's basketball coach Larry Shyatt met with the media and provided a report on senior Larry Nance Jr. and red-shirt freshmen Alan Herndon, and their bout with mononucleosis. Herndon may be closer to returning than Nance.

Shyatt said Monday,

"Al worked out yesterday (Sunday) and seemed to be quite a bit better. So, we're hoping to have him on the practice floor for some of the practice."

The news on Nance sounded less promising.

"Larry did not work out. We saw him; he saw the doctor again this (Monday) morning. Probably the correct thing to say would be is he is still day-to-day," said Shyatt.

As for the protocol the team is following, Shyatt deferred to the team's trainer and doctor saying they handle the medical piece.

"I know they've tried to be careful; mentioning where these kids were, in terms of sleeping, when they needed to, and when they're together, do's and don'ts."

If neither plays, the Pokes would be without those two players for a second straight game. Herndon also missed the win over Colorado State on February 4.

Wyoming plays San Diego State for a second time in Mountain West play Wednesday at 9 p.m., Mountain Time.
