I love regional folklore and the stories that go along with it!

Some say that the sighting of a ghost ship on the Platte River between Torrington and Alcova will signal the death of someone. According to this Wyoming folklore page, the ship emerges from the mist and then vanishes into fog.

But when a passerby comes upon it, the sails and masts are covered in a thick, icy frost. The crew is on deck, also visually frozen, standing around a hidden corpse. The legend continues that the ship always foreshadows the death of someone...someone who will die on the same day it is spotted. The crew then steps back, revealing the corpose...which is someone that is known by the witness.

Don't worry. All of the alleged sightings of this specter were in the late-1800s and early-1900s.
