You may be one of those who either grew up in church or you regularly attend church now. History was made in Cheyenne back in 1867, when the first sermon was preached here.

It was on this day in 1867, about three months before the railroad reached the 'Magic City of the Plains', that the first sermon message was preached to the new congregation, located at the corner of 18th and Central Ave.

A Colorado circuit rider by the name of Rev. W.W. Baldwin, broke the bread of life, when he preached his first gospel message at the first Methodist church service.

The land for the church site was purchased from the Union Pacific Railroad for the low cost of $1.00. The church was framed by lumber that came from Chicago, Illinois.

The church today looks a lot different than it did in 1867. With it's red sandstone on the outside and stained glass windows, it's a wonderful, historical site for all who pass by.

And since that first message from Rev. Baldwin and the nine people who made up the early congregation, people are still hearing the gospel in its sanctuary today.
