After the Sunday cattle drive in Cheyenne, one of the first events you'll see prior to the big events at Cheyenne Frontier Days is the Slack Rodeo. Here's what that looks like.

Slack is a rodeo term which means that there are often more cowboys entered into the contest than there are slots for them to compete. These events are timed. It goes without saying that timed events are any event that cowgirls and cowboys compete against the clock.

The most common timed events are: tie-down roping, steer roping, and barrel racing. So, in the mornings, you can head down to Frontier Park and enjoy some early slack rodeo. It is fun and a good primer for the main events.

The video below will show you what the cowboys are trying to accomplish, and what the job is of those on the north side of the arena. These guys ensure that the livestock is stripped of any equipment that might belong to the cowboy.

The timed event slack is a team effort on so many levels. And we appreciate all who help to make Cheyenne Frontier Days a reality every year.
