Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Fans Set Radical Guinness World Record

It was the largest gathering of humans dressed in green suits anywhere. (Well, outside of St. Patrick’s Day, that is.) 836 men, women and children displayed “Turtle power” at Minnesota’s Mall of America when they set a new record for the largest gathering of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans, beating the previous record of 786 set at Rutgers University in 2008. We like to imagine all 836 fans shouted “Cowabunga!” after the folks at the Guinness World Records gave them the news.

The world record attempt was also to celebrate the launch of a new thrill ride at Nickelodeon Universe, the theme park inside the mall. Dubbed the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shell Shock, the ride consists of 12 single bucket seats at the end of a cantilevered arm rotating around a central tower, taking riders 70 feet in the air and reaching speeds of up to 25 mph. (Individual riders can control the movement of their seat too.)

Fans who made the pilgrimage also received commemorative Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles t-shirts, face masks and free passes to check out the ride. The ride may sound cool, but for a TMNT fan, realizing he/she wasn’t alone in owning a green suit was probably its own reward.
