The guitarist backing up Tom Petty in the Heartbreakers has also worked with a variety of other artists not only playing instruments but writing songs and producing albums. Mike Campbell just celebrated his 60th birthday on February 1st but shows no signs of slowing down.

He recently recorded a guitar solo for Bad Religion's album The Dissent Of Man on "Cyanide" and previously helped on their album Empire Strikes First on a track called "Los Angeles is Burning." Campbell also played banjo on the Dandy Warhols "Love Song" and guitar and mandolin on Bob Dylan's Together Through Life.

Mike Campbell co-wrote and performed on Don Henley's "Boys of Summer" and "Heart Of The Matter." He also plays guitar on The Wallflowers song "Sixth Avenue Heartache" and produced four songs on Roy Orbison's Mystery Girl album.

Campbell has a side-band too, which he says has a rougher edge than the Heartbreakers, called The Dirty Knobs.

So next time you're checking those liner notes look for Mike Campbell's name, it might be in there.
