There is nothing worse that hearing your company is going to down size and/ or eliminate your specific position. But what about your job becoming extinct altogether?  Here are some of the top 5 jobs across America that are heading for the extinction list. I would hope that your way of making a living is not on the list.

  1. Fallers - Those who cut down trees with the U.S. Forestry Service. This job is expected to get the axe with a drop of 43% by the year 2022, according to the Bureau of Land Management.
  2. Cobblers - People who operate shoe machines to fabricate footwear. According to the American Apparel and Footwear Association, has said these jobs have been on the decline and expect the workforce to drop by about 35% in 2022, from 3500 to 2300 workers.
  3. Processors of Semiconductors - These are the guys who oversee the fabrication of microchips. With the advent of mechanized production, the need for these folks are becoming less and less.
  4. Textile Operators and Setters - How many of you had a grandfather who was raised in and around a textile mill? Many of these jobs have been getting away from domestic clothing production, as many of these jobs have been found overseas.
  5. Movie Projectionists - I remember some years ago talking to a man that enjoyed his job running the motion picture projector at the local movie theatre. Not so much nowadays. Not computers have taken the place of the man operated venture.
