The American Veterans Traveling Tribute, a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, will be on display at Lions Park through Sunday, June 28.

The traveling wall is an 80% replica of the memorial in Washington D.C., and has the names of over 85,000 men and women who lost their lives in Vietnam.  There's also associated memorials that pay tribute to those lost during the 9/11 attacks and other wars.

"There's tons of people that'll never have the time or the means to go to D.C. to see the memorials there and so our whole purpose is to be able to bring the memorials to them," said John Barron, Director of Operations for the American Veterans Traveling Tribute.  "And it's really an honor and a privilege to get to do so."

Barron says the memorial gives people the opportunity to pay their respects and honor our heroes.

"It's an opportunity for a lot of people to maybe finally say goodbye to their friends or family, because there's tons of the guys from Vietnam that have never really taken a first step towards closure," said Barron.

An opening ceremony and wreath laying will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, June 25. Closing ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, June 28. The memorial is free to the public and will be open for viewing 24 hours a day.
