USDA Wetlands Conservation Program Growing
A USDA Conservation Program for two decades now has provided several benefits both environmentally and economically. The Wetlands Reserve Program has grown dramatically over that time, according to acting Natural Resources Conservation Service Chief Jason Weller.
"its now grown so in the last decade or so and the last five years in particular we are now enrolling about 210,000 acres of permanent wetlands each year."
Weller says a total of 2.6 million acres has now been enrolled in the program, which is about the size of the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined.
