LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) —The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees has appointed Dick McGinity interim president. McGinity is UW's vice president for academic affairs and has been informally performing the duties of president since President Bob Sternberg's resignation about three weeks ago.Trustees President Dave Bostrom says an interim president is necessary to fill top administrative vacancies, including the provost.

The 10-2 decision Friday occurred during the board's first meeting since Sternberg announced he was leaving after less than five months on the job.

Bostrom says the board has not yet discussed how it will go about searching for a new president. He says that discussion will occur in January when the board next meets. The board has not yet discussed openly how it will go about searching for a new president. Under a state law enacted last winter, the board can conduct its search entirely in secret.

The UW Faculty Senate has said it wants the names of finalists publicized well in advance of a decision by the regents. It also wants the finalists to meet with faculty and to make a public presentation to the community. Under a state law enacted last winter, the board can conduct its search entirely in secret.
