Events and festivals are great attractions and Wyoming has plenty. We can think of some already, but there are many that you may have never heard of.

Everyone has their favorite events in the Cowboy State and some of them may not even be nationally known. Here are 5 events in Wyoming that are nationally recognized.

  1. Cheyenne Frontier Days - Yep! The 'Daddy of em All' is probably one of the most, if not the most, popular events in Wyoming. It's not only known around the country, but people visit from around the world. Cheyenne residents and surrounding communities come out at their best during the last full week in July.
  2. The Cody Stampede - Cody, Wyoming is known as the 'Rodeo Capital of the World' and has been for the last 90 years. Lots of cowboys, rodeos and games help to make this a big event. Cowboy Christmas is very popular every year also.
  3. Woodchopper's Jamboree & Rodeo - This typically kicks off on Father's Day, or the third weekend in June. So if you're going to be in or around Encampment, Wyoming, you'll not want to miss this event! It's been an annual event for the past 50 years as male and female loggers from all over America compete in chopping wood, trees, and blocks. Other attractions include bull riding and the local melodrama characters encourage the audience to participate.
  4. River Festival - Green River, Wyoming has a great tradition smack dab in the middle of August. For over 8 years or so, the River Festival hosts some great events like Run with the Horses competition, hula-hoop contests, live bands, games for the kids and even a Cajun lobster and pasta fest. Another great Wyoming tradition.
  5. International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race - You might have thought this was only an Alaskan event. This is Wyoming's own "Iditarod" event. This high-speed, low-drag sled dog event takes place around mid-January every year, across Utah and Wyoming. Somewhere around 30 teams compete in the event every year.
