It's been a good week for the Smithsonian Museum in Washington. First the swimsuit Farrah Fawcett wore in her famous poster was donated and now Eddie Van Halen's guitar.

The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History has acquired the "Frank 2" guitar Eddie used during his North American tour with David Lee Roth in 2007 and 2008.

The red, white and black guitar is a replica of the original "Frankenstein" guitar that Van Halen used for more than 30 years. He constructed the guitar to suit his own playing style.

Museum director Brent Glass says the guitar reflects Van Halen's innovation, talent and influence and it will be part of the museum's instrument collection.

A spokeswoman for the museum says there are no current plans to put the guitar on public view.
