Voters To Decide Fate Of LCCC Bond Issue Nov. 7

Laramie County voters will decide the fate of a proposed $29.49 million bond issue for Laramie County Community College in a special election scheduled for Nov. 7.

If approved the money would be used to build new student housing as well as renovate and expand college. education, recreation, and athletics space.

LCCC President Joe Schaffer says one of the most important parts of the project would be the construction of a new 400 seat auditorium. Shaffer says right now LCCC is the only community college in Wyoming without an auditorium, adding most or all Wyoming high schools also have auditoriums. He says besides a new residence hall and auditorium, a renovation project of the college athletics building is part of the proposal. He says the building is 44 years old and hasn't had much work performed over that time.

Shaffer says that while there are visible problems with the building like worn out vinyl and carpeting, there are bigger problems with the building's electrical wiring and heating/air conditioning system. Shaffer says the electrical system is so outdated that when washers and dryers were added to clean athletic uniforms, the blow dryers in both the men's and women's locker rooms had to be removed.

Laramie County Clerk Debra Lee says that while there is no early voting in the county government building for this election, people can vote early by asking for an absentee ballot. She says the same county voting centers that were used for the 2016 presidential election will be available for the special election.
