NASA is actually planning to drill into the Yellowstone Super-volcano. Whether or not they really do, that is their plan now. We could only take a poll on what Wyoming folks think will happen after that. And it seems those who don’t believe anything will happen are in the minority. Holy Cow! If an apocalypse is coming, why are we still here?

A part of NASA, The Advisory Council on Planetary Defense is a real thing – as in defending earth from really bad things like from asteroids and comets. This tracks to the BBC. They quote Brian Wilcox, who said, “I came to the conclusion the super-volcano threat is substantially greater than an asteroid or comet.” Yikes, Brian works for the people who claimed there was “no threat” from Yellowstone. That was NASA, now with this plan, that checks out with reputable sites like Popular MechanicsInternational Business Times, and now sciencealert.com.

According to the BBC:

They believe the most viable solution is to drill up to 10 km to the super-volcano, and pump down water at high pressure. The circulating water would return at a temperature of around 662 F. This slowly day by day extracts heat from - and cools - the volcano."

Not everyone is convinced an eruption can be prevented. In fact, several sites have experts concerned it could cause an eruption.

Get sources you trust to draw your own conclusions. We just wanted to ask what Wyoming’s opinion is so far.

And what do we think will – or won’t – happen by drilling to the magma?
