Cheyenne Mayoral candidate Marian Orr is touting an offer of a land donation in the west edge area of Cheyenne for the site of the proposed Children's Museum of Cheyenne as a "win-win" for the museum and the Hynds building project.

The developer of the Hynds project has been looking for property for parking once the project is completed and has requested the Children's Museum consider selling the adjacent property in the area commonly known as "the hole."

Museum planners purchased the property some time ago in hopes of building the planned museum there. But so far they haven't been able to raise most of the money that will be needed for the project.

On Monday, Stephanie White, who inherited over 20 acres of land adjacent to the Cheyenne Ice and Events Center from her uncle, Paul Smith, offered to donate two acres of land as a new location for the Children's Museum of Cheyenne.

The donation would then allow the museum to sell the property in downtown Cheyenne to developer David Hatch for the proposed Hynds Building project.

White made the offer at a joint news conference with Orr.

White has already promised to donate three acres to the City of Cheyenne for recreation out of the same 20-acre property she inherited from her uncle.

Orr's opponent for Mayor of Cheyenne, Amy Surdam, is also President of the Children's Museum Board of Directors. She declined to comment on the land offer Monday because she has not been given any details on the proposal.

White and her realtor plan to make a presentation on the offer to Children's Museum officials on Friday, according to information presented at the news conference.
