Cheyenne City Councilwoman Annette Williams says it's time to take action to reduce vandalism and other crimes in South Cheyenne.

Williams is asking residents to attend a public meeting on the issue at Johnson Junior High School on October 16 at 6 p.m. to discuss what can be done about the problem. She says that while she realizes crime in Cheyenne isn't limited to just the south side, residents of that area are getting tired of the situation and want solutions.

A recent meeting on the issue drew widespread comments and was attended by two representatives of the Cheyenne Police Department.

Williams says one possible step is the implementation of widespread neighborhood watch programs, which she says were common at one time but have since become less active.

Williams is also asking residents of the area to call police if they see groups of kids roaming the streets in the early morning hours, and is asking parents to keep an eye on their children's activities, especially early in the morning.

She says she's also hoping Cheyenne police will increase their patrols of the area.
