A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday on the new Primrose Retirement Community located in The Pointe Subdivision in Cheyenne. The Primrose Company, based in Aberdeen, South Dakota, operates 29 retirement facilities in 14 states, according to Primrose Director of Marketing and Sales Melissa O'Hara. The Cheyenne facility will be the company's third in Wyoming, joining retirement communities in Casper and Gillette.

O'Hara says the Primrose Retirement differs from other retirement facilities in the sense that it is a self-contained community, offering amenities including a pub, several restaurants, a wellness center and other amenities. She says the center will include 40 independent living and 40 assisted living units. O'Hara declined to say how much the building will cost to build, other than to say it will be a ''multimillion dollar facility''. She says the building should be ready to move into by this time next year.
