Working 9-to-5 is Dead
Remember Dolly Parton’s theme to the working class, “Working 9-to-5?” Those days are LONG gone, because more of are working much longer than “9-to-5.”
You might have to explain to your kids someday what working 9-to-5 actually means, because according to bizjournals.com, a survey says that those eight hour days, which would be your regular forty hour work week, is DEAD! In fact at least 88% of us work much longer hours than what was once the average work week.
This survey also found that 71% of people take work home with them at least once a week, 63% don’t take a full lunch break every day, and at least 30% have a commute that’s 30 minutes or longer.
I tend to agree with this survey, in fact, I can’t remember a time where I ever worked “9-to-5.” I also take work home with me EVERY night, and when it comes to taking a lunch break, my immediate thought was “What’s a lunch break?
The only thing that’s different with my work load and this survey is the commute. We now only live only a few miles from work, where as this time last year, we were driving a good hour and a half to get to work, and as you know, with our infamousWyomingwinters, that commute was certainly no picnic!
I know that I’m not alone when it comes to working extra hours, but I’ve just got to know, does ANYONE work 9-to-5 work days anymore? If not, how many hours to you put in on an average work day?
