The Laramie County Sheriff's Department is hoping the public holds the key to solving a 16-year-old homicide case.

Lt. Don Hollingshead says deputies were called to the 200 block of W. College Drive shortly after 8 a.m. on June 21, 2001, after a man in a pickup reportedly shot 25-year-old Jamie Kamai and drove off.

"He (Kamai) was stopped in traffic, went back and talked to a person behind him and he was shot while the suspect was sitting in his car," said Hollingshead. "Kamai left behind in the vehicle two small children that were there when the incident took place."

Kamai, who was sitting in his car when deputies arrived, was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.

"We've had many leads over the years, but the case has turned cold and we turned it over to DCI," said Hollingshead. "We're just hoping that the public can come forward with new information (and) hopefully bring the suspect to justice and closure to the family."

Hollingshead is asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers Silent Witness at (307) 638-TIPS. Callers will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
