The Wyoming Cowboys were picked to finish in last place of the Mountain Division as the Mountain West released its Preseason Poll Tuesday.

The Pokes received 31 total points in balloting by 29 MW media members.

Boise State was an overwhelming choice to win the division. The Broncos received 27 first place votes and 172 total points. Air Force was picked second. The Falcons got the remaining two first place votes and received 126 points in the balloting. Utah State (111 points), Colorado State (95) and New Mexico (74) were selected in front of UW.

Defending MW champion San Diego State was a unanimous pick to win the West Division. The Aztecs received all 29 first place votes and 174 points in the balloting. Nevada was selected second with 129 points. San Jose State was a close third with 122 points. Fresno State (76 points), UNLV (73) and Hawai’i (35) rounded out the West Division.

Both the Aztecs and Broncos return 14 starters this season. Among San Diego State’s returners are senior running back Donnel Pumphrey, 2015 MW Offensive Player of the Year, senior defensive back Damontae Kazee, the 2015 MW Defensive Player of the Year and also the 2015 MW Special Teams Player of the Year in junior Rashaad Penny.
