For the first time in her career, senior Chaundra Sewell has been selected to the 2013 WBCA Division I Coaches’ Honorable Mention All-America Team. She is one of four Cowgirls in school history to earn the honor and the first since 2008.

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced the awards Saturday in a ceremony held at the New Orleans Arena during the 2013 NCAA® Women’s Final Four® Super Saturday festivities. The 10-member team was decided from a group of 52 finalists by the selection committee at an in-person meeting held during the 2013 WBCA National Convention.

Last month, Sewell was among four individuals to be selected as a regional finalist to the WBCA All-Region VII Team.

“Chaundra joins an elite group of former Cowgirl players,” said head coach Joe Legerski in a release from UW. “She has shown a true commitment to the Wyoming program and demonstrated that excellence throughout her career. As a result, she was rewarded with the Honorable Mention All-American award.”

A 6-1, forward, from Broomfield, Colorado, Sewell led the Cowgirls in several categories including scoring (14.9 ppg), rebounding (9.7 rpg) and blocked shots (1.2 bpg). She also shot a team best 52.7 percent (175-532) from the field and 77.6 percent (128-165) from the free throw line. In league games, she averaged a team high 15.3 points and 9.3 rebounds, while shooting 90-177 (50.8%) from the field and 64-75 (85.3%) from the charity stripe. She also ranked among the Top 10 in five Mountain West categories both overall and in league play. This season she was also honored as Mountain West Player of the Week three times.

She was selected First Team All-Mountain West plus to the All-MW Defensive team for the second straight year. As a junior, she earned Second Team All-Conference honors and was Honorable Mention during her sophomore season. Sewell ranks among the Top 15 in ten categories in school history. She is tied for fourth in games played, sixth in free throws made, seventh in blocked shots and free throw attempts, eighth in rebounds, 11th in field goals made, 12th in field goal percentage, 13th in points, 14th in assists and 15th in field goal attempts. This season, she reached 1,000 points for career, one of 20 players in school history, and with 1,252 points ranks 13th all-time. Sewell recorded 61 double-figure scoring games, 31 double-figure rebounding games and 23 career double-doubles, which is ninth in school history.

The First Team included Elena Delle Donne (Delaware), Skylar Diggins (Notre Dame), Stephanie Dolson (Connecticut), Chelsea Grey (Duke), Brittney Griner (Baylor), Kayla McBride (Notre Dame), Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis (Connecticut), Chiney Ogwumike (Stanford), Odyssey Sims (Baylor), Alyssa Thomas (Maryland).
