Wyoming Downs, an off-track betting operation, announced Wednesday it's scratching its plan to purchase and renovate the former Jackson's Sports Grill in Cheyenne.

The Cheyenne City Council was considering amending an ordinance to allow "indoor entertainment" at the property, but postponed voting on the issue Monday night after multiple residents voiced concerns about safety in the neighborhood based on criminal activity taking place at Wyoming Downs' current Cheyenne Plaza location.

Wyoming Downs CEO Rick Cook says the company is researching an alternate north Cheyenne location for their expansion in the market.

"We would like to thank the Cheyenne City Council members who supported our Cheyenne expansion as well as the residents who shared their concerns," said Cook.

"Wyoming Downs' desire is to remain a strong community partner – we will be going back to the drawing board to develop a plan that fits everyone's needs," he added.

The company expects to announce their alternative north Cheyenne location in the coming months.
