Wyoming's unemployment rate remained unchanged from August to September, holding steady at 4.0 percent.

That's according to a report released Tuesday by the Research and Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services.

The highest unemployment rates in the state in September were found in Natrona County (4.5 percent), Fremont County (4.4 percent)  and Campbell County (4.3 percent).

But those three counties also showed some of the biggest year-over-year decreases in joblessness when compared to 2016. Campbell County had the biggest drop in unemployment in the state (6.7 percent to 4.3 percent), followed by Natrona County (6.5 percent to 4.5 percent). Converse County had the next biggest year-over-year decline (5.6 percent to 3.7 percent), while Fremont County's jobless rate fell from 6.2 percent to 4.4 percent.

Wyoming's statewide unemployment rate fell from 5.1 percent to 4.0 percent year-over-year, but state economist David Bullard said that drop in joblessness is not nearly as positive as it seems. That's because the state's labor force declined by 7,668 people (about 2.5 percent) between September 2016 and last month.

Laramie County's unemployment rate went up slightly between August and September of this year, going from 3.2 percent to 3.3 percent, still down slightly from the September 2016 rate of 3.5 percent.

Albany County continued to have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state last month, at 2.5 percent.

That was down from an August 2017 jobless rate of 2.7 percent, which was the same jobless rate Albany County had in September of 2016.
