The Wyoming Law Enforcement Memorial 5K run is slated for Sunday, May 21 in Cheyenne.

The run is a fundraiser to for a bronze sculpture that will be created by a Wyoming artist to honor Wyoming law enforcement officers who have died on duty. The plan calls for the sculpture to be built on the grounds of the state Capitol Building.

Once the sculpture is built, organizers of the event say the run will continue as a way to raise money for the families of fallen police officers.

So far 60 Wyoming peace officers have died in the line of duty, according to Sgt. Rob Dafoe of the Cheyenne Police Department. You can register for the race here.
