Wyoming Lawmakers Advance Lottery Measure
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming State Senate has given preliminary approval to a bill that would allow a lottery and multi-state games such as Powerball in the state.
The senate approved the bill by a vote of 17-to-12 on Wednesday afternoon. The bill already has passed the House and would need two more votes in the Senate.
Supporters of the bill say Wyoming residents already are playing the lottery, spending millions of dollars in neighboring states on tickets.
Lottery opponents say it's a form of gambling and a tax that disproportionately affects the poor.
