Wyoming Now Has Four Major Political Parties

Wyoming will add two major parties to its 2016 primary and general election ballots.

Secretary of State Max Maxfield announced that both the Libertarian and Constitution Parties have earned major party status as a result of the number of votes their candidates for Secretary of State received in the recent general election.

We have notified both parties that they have acquired major party status and will appear on the 2016 primary and general elections,” said Maxfield. “Both the Libertarian and Constitution Parties achieved major party status because their candidates for Secretary of State received more than 10 percent of the votes cast for that office in the General Election.

Maxfield said the change in status from minor to major party means the parties will nominate their candidates through the primary election process rather than through party conventions.

Wyoming’s four major parties are now the Republican, Democratic, Libertarian, and
Constitution parties.
