Last week we told you about Richard Dixon, the Cheyenne resident who won a $10,000 seat at the World Series of Poker Main Event in a contest held legendary six-time WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu.

WYO Player Staked By the 'Poker Kid' at WSOP

Dixon is well on his way to making Negreanu’s investment pay off. On day one, Dixon doubled his stack, finishing with $108,000 in chips and ranking 93rd after the opening round.

Dixon’s count would have been even higher had he not suffered a “bad beat” on the final hand of the first round, when his Ace-King lost to 4-5 that drew a straight on the river.

Unfortunately, Negreanu didn’t fare nearly as well on day one. After starting with $50,000 in chips, the “Poker Kid” will have to grind it out short-stacked; surviving day one with $37k.
