The conference leader and a streaking team are the opposition on tap tonight for the Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls in Mountain West basketball.

UW will take on San Diego State. The men’s game is in Laramie, while the women’s game is in San Diego.

Wyoming Cowboys

Coming off a strong Border War victory last Saturday, the Pokes host the Aztecs in the Arena-Auditorium.

San Diego State leads the MW at 13-1 and is 20-7 on the season.  They won the first meeting between the teams back on December 30, 2015, 67-55, in South California.

Wyoming has an overall record of 13-15 and 6-9 in the MW.

This match-up pits the Cowboys, who lead the conference in three-point field goal percentage and three’s made per game, against an Aztec defense that leads the league in scoring, field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage defense.

Senior Josh Adams says I know what to expect from San Diego State.

“Their style of play doesn’t change very much because they’re so successful with what they do… You can expect hard-nosed defense and a battle, a dog fight to the end… In order for us to win, it’s going to take more heart; more energy; more effort.”

Tip-off is at 8 p.m. TV coverage is on CBS Sports Network.

Wyoming Cowgirls

After losing their last two, the Cowgirls will try to bounce back with a road game at San Diego State.

The Aztecs are 5-9 in the conference and 10-15 on the season. UW has slipped to 12-13 overall and 5-10 in the MW.

After San Diego State won in Laramie, 84-77, nearly two months ago, they lost nine straight. Now, their riding a four-game win streak.

Cowgirls head coach Joe Legerski says they’re playing as well as they’ve played all season.

“We’re going to have to be able to play defense; find our opportunities to be able to make baskets; but we can’t let the game get back up into the high 70’s again.”

Legerski knows his squad struggled in the first meeting with the Aztecs’ speed and quickness, but believes they’re playing better team defense.

Game time from San Diego is at 7:30 p.m., Mountain Time.
