A fugitive who was wanted in Sweetwater County on vehicular homicide charges has been arrested in Florida following a two-month manhunt, according to Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell.

28-year-old Jason Alexander Macias is charged with Aggravated Homicide by Vehicle in connection with the death of Bonny Wood of Jackson in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 30 west of Granger on Aug.7.

Court documents in the case say Macias was the driver of an SUV that was traveling eastbound at a very high speed and drifted into the westbound lane, forcing other vehicles to swerve off the road on the day of the accident.

The SUV then allegedly overcorrected to the right, going down an embankment and rolling several times. A male and female were thrown from the SUV and were found on the ground by emergency responders.

According to the court documents, Wood was taken away by an ambulance and then flown to a Salt Lake City Hospital, where she died the next day.

Macias and two young children who had been passengers in the vehicle were at first treated for their injuries on the scene and Macias was flown to a Utah hospital after a Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper had some blood drawn from him for a drug test. His blood tested positive for amphetamine and benzodiazepines, according to the documents.

Macias allegedly disappeared after being treated and released from the hospital.

Lowell says Sheriff's Department detectives tracked him to Naples, Florida, where he was arrested Thursday afternoon.

Arrangements are being made to return him to Sweetwater County to face the charges, according to a news release. Under Wyoming law Aggravated Homicide by Vehicle carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison, a $10,000 fine or both.
