Wyoming World Records

Over the years, there's been some interesting world records set here in the great state of Wyoming. Here's five of the weirdest, and a few that probably won't surprise you.

1. In 2010, Ed Bruns set the record for the most number of body piercings, when over 1,500 needles were inserted into his body during an event in Gillette. Bruns broke the existing mark by over 300 needles.

2. In 2013, Jaimie Pierre flew off a 255 foot cliff in Grand Targhee, Wyoming, setting a record for the world's largest ski jump.

3. In 2006, at the tender age of 88, Wyoming native Bob Champion became the oldest man to ever win a title at the World Horseshoe Pitchers Tournament.

4. Earlier this year, over 1,000 students at the University of Wyoming in Laramie broke the record for the biggest crowd to ever swing dance at the same time.

5. In 2011, Wyoming based manufacturer Westech’s Flow Control Body set a new mark for the world's largest coal hauler, when they built a truck capable of holding 447 tons of coal at the North Antelope Rochelle coal mine.

6. In 2014, Burlington hunter Albert Henderson set a new mark for the largest bull elk ever taken down by a crossbow in the Shoshone National Forrest.

7. In 2007, Cheyenne's E.D. Riekens Jr. broke an 82 year old record when he successfully harvested a massive bison nicknamed "Old Lonseome" in the Bridger-Teton National Forrest. The bison's horns measured nearly 3 feet long, shattering the previous record set in Yellowstone National Park in 1925.

8. In 2012, angler Rick Mickelsen caught the world's largest golden trout (54 cm) at Golden Lake, near Mount Quintet in western Wyoming.

9. Yellowstone National Park holds the record as the world's first national park, originally established in 1972.

10. Yellowstone also owns another record for the most largest concentration of geysers in the world.
