5 Thoughts On Wyoming Football’s Home Opener Against Gardner-Webb
Wyoming football played it's first home game of the season, and for 3 quarters of the game it was a spectacular day in Laramie. Swirling wind and light rain kept a few fans from sticking around in the fourth quarter, however, Wyoming was up by three scores at that point.
In fact, there wasn't a lot of action at all in the second half with the Cowboys out-scoring Gardner-Webb just 3-0. Luckily, the Wyoming offense played much better in the first half, scoring 24, thus making the final 27-0, giving the Pokes their first win on the year.

Defense, Defense, Defense
Josh Allen may have stolen the national spotlight, but Wyoming fans should be buzzing about this year's defense. They seemed much-improved at Iowa despite the loss, and even better against Gardner-Webb grabbing Wyoming's first shutout since 2010.

Austin Conway and C.J. Johnson are by far, the guys Josh has the most faith in. Allen called Conway "electrifying" after the game. Coach Bohl echoed that saying "the goal is to get it to him as much as possible." Johnson and Conway both had over 100 yards receiving.

Running Game Concerns

Wyoming removed Trey Woods' redshirt to bring him into the backfield. Woods had two carries against Gardner-Webb and is listed third on the depth chart for this week's game against Oregon.

Familiarize Yourself With Avante' Cox
Freshman wide receiver Avante Cox had a couple of catches early in the Gardner-Webb game. He's easily one of the quickest guys on the team and if they continue to get him the ball, I think he can make some explosive plays and really rack up the "yards after catch" state column.

War Memorial Changes
If you couldn't make it, here's a few thoughts from the changes at War Memorial this year.
- Beer/Wine lines appeared to move quickly
- No major crowd issues with alcohol
- High Altitude Performance Center creates more noise on north side of the stadium
- The cannon has been relocated to the southwest side of the stadium
- New umbrella's that cover tables on the south side of the stadium won't last long in Wyoming's wind
- Pregame fireworks are a nice touch, just watch your head for debris afterward
